Deceased Brethren
We are currently doing research on Godfrey Brown but here is what we have so far:
Godfrey Brown was the son of James Miller Brown (1830-1926), Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge No.3 in 1874 and 1875, and the half brother of Joseph Miller Brown, Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge No. 3 in 1895. His childhood home is still standing at 528 Hecate Street, Nanaimo.
Here is the Nanaimo Free Press obituary of Godfrey Brown:
“BROWN – Mr. Godfrey Brown, a resident of 1627 Northfield Road, Nanimo, B.C. passed away in Nanaimo Hospital Wednesday June 22, 1983. A native son and lifetime resident of Nanaimo, Mr. Brown was 84 years of age. He was a member of Ashlar Lodge 3, A.F. & A.M. and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Nanaimo. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife Agnes, Nanaimo; 2 sons, Al, nanaimo; Charlie, Kamloops; 1 daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Barr, Nanaimo; 7 grandchildren; four brothers, Henry, Nanoose; Ivan and Victor, Nanaimo; Clarence, Vancouver; 1 sister, Olive Wilson, Nanaimo; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from St. James Anglican Church, 2156 Departure Bay Road, Nanaimo, B.C., Monday morning June 27 at 10 a.m. Rev. Father Ron Risley will officiate followed by interment in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar, B.C. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish donations in memory of Mr. Brown may be made to the Kinsman Child Development Centre, 1885 Grant Avenue, Nanaimo, B.C. Arrangements are Mount Benson Funeral Directors, 125 Wallace Street, Nanaimo, B.C.”
