John Leslie “Jack” Ruckledge was a member of Ashlar Lodge No. 3 and Nanaimo Chapter #43 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Here is his obituary in the local newspaper:
“January 24, 1932 – January 9, 2020
Born January 24, 1932 and passed away January 9, 2020. Predeceased by his wife Bernice (2003) and brother Tom (2002). Survived by brother Bob (Mary) and their children. Jack was born and raised in South Wellington at the family store. He graduated from John Shaw School and furthered his schooling to become a Barber. He operated the Eagle Barber Shop in downtown Nanaimo for 30 plus years. He married Bernice Tickle in 1955 and built their home in South Wellington where they lived until 1990. From there they moved to Cameron Island. He was a member of the South Wellington Fire Department and later became a District Trustee.
He also was a member of FOE #15 [note: Fraternal Order of Eagles], Masonic Lodge Ashlar #3, Nanaimo Chapter #43 of the O.E.S. and Sharon Chapter, Ladysmith [note: Order of the Eastern Star]. Jack was a Worthy Patron (note: in the Order of the Eastern Star) 8 times. Jack’s Memorial Service has been cancelled until a later date. Donations can be made in Jack’s memory to the Nanaimo District Hospital or a Charity of your choice.”
